During May 2022, I joined four photography enthusiasts, a tour leader and a guide on a tour through Namibia.
International flights were plagued by delays and cancellations directly after COVID-19 travel restrictions were lifted, so I left one day earlier to avoid the risk.
The first night came with a vivid sunset and bright starry night sky, a taste of what was to come.
Day one of the tour took us to Keetmanshoop, where we photographed the bizarre quiver trees against the sunset and the night sky.
After a surreal, otherworldly sunrise at the Devil's Playground, we travelled to Luderitz and spent two days capturing images of the ghost towns of Kolmanskop and Elizabeth Bay, captivated by the haunting beauty and underlying sadness of these abandoned diamond-mining towns.
We explored Sossusvlei, with its red sand dunes and rugged terrain where the light changes throughout the day, offering endless opportunities to capture breathtaking shots.
On a frosty morning, we trekked over the dunes to take stunning images of the long-since-dead trees in Deadvlei, and afterwards, Walvis Bay treated us to the sight of beautiful pelicans and stunning flamingos at sunset.
The environment changed dramatically as we drove along the Skeleton Coast to Palmwag, and the shipwrecks along the way were witness to the treacherous ocean along this 500-kilometre stretch of beach.
From our base in Sesfontein, we headed out to visit a Himba settlement. A unique cultural experience!
And finally, we had an unforgettable time in the magnificent Etosha Game Reserve. We spent four days covering a large area of the park, slowly making our way from one side to the other.
